Coroner identifies victim of Charleston Highway crash

Dixiana, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the two people who died in the 3400 block of Charleston Highway in a violent car crash at the entrance to the SC State Farmer’s Market shortly before noon on Monday. The pair were in a Volkswagen that was reported stolen from South Congaree.

According to the coroner, Timothy W. Roberts, 44, of Swansea and Nicole Y. Beran, 39, of Lexington were in the vehicle being pursued by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies when they collided with a delivery van owned by Harvest Hope Food Bank as it made a left turn into the market. Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries, and Beran was pronounced dead upon arrival at an area hospital; neither was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the van was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
