Grass fire runs through back yards near South Congaree threatening structures before fire fighters put it out

October 22, 2018

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – A grass fire that was reported on McDonald Avenue near South Congaree Sunday afternoon quickly moved under fences making it more difficult for firefighters to put out. Eventually, they used trucks from several stations to get ahead of the fire and eventually put it out.

The fire was reported at approximately 4:45 p.m. and equipment and personnel quickly arrived on scene. When they saw that the fire was jumping the fences, they quickly called for more assistance. The fire eventually spread across toward Garage Lane and a truck was dispatched there to make sure it didn’t damage a building until if could be put out. The fire was marked under control after about 30 minutes.
