Gilbert, SC (Paul Kirby) – A shed burned to the ground before fire trucks and personnel could arrive on the scene near the intersection of Neely Wingard and Nathan Miller Roads just east of Gilbert Monday afternoon. This runs parallel to I-20 between the Pond Branch and Old Charleston overpasses. The call about the shed being on fire came in between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m., bringing resources from across the area to battle what was left of the 20’ x 20’ structure. Most were tankers used to supply water in areas with no fire hydrants.
As firefighters were enroute, they could see a large column of black smoke off in the distance. Once they arrived on scene, they found that the small building had been completely consumed. They still worked for some time to make sure that the entire remains of the structure were wet down and completely out. Eventually, the tankers that were used to supply the water for the fire were released in stages as they were no longer needed. Once all the remaining embers were doused, the fire was declared fully out and the last of the fire equipment was released.
