Utility pole manufacturing building burns near Batesburg-Leesville early Sunday morning
Batesburg-Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) – A business that makes poles used by utility companies burned Sunday morning destroying a building on the property that contained equipment used to dry and treat the poles. According to Harrison Cahill, spokesman for Lexington County, the fire was dispatched just after 1:00 a.m. at 304 Bozard Mill Road near Batesburg-Leesville. The name of the business at that address is South Carolina Pole & Piling.
Cahill said that Lexington County Fire Service and Lexington EMS responded as did fire equipment and personnel from the Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department. In total, there were 8 trucks and 15 personnel on scene. He said that the building that burned contains approximately 300 light poles. There are no injuries reported at this time.
Cahill says that the origin seems to have been the dry kiln. The fire service had a fire marshal on the scene this morning. Eventually, the SC Law Enforcement Division had trained fire investigators on the scene looking into exactly how the fire started.
