Sheriff’s Department looking for car thief Gone in 60 Seconds, or less
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Although the popular movie Gone in 60 Seconds, released in 2000 starring Nicolas Cage was a work of fiction, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department wants you to know it can be close to reality if you don’t take steps to protect yourself. Recently, an SUV owner found that out when he left his car running while he ran into the Circle K on South Lake Drive. Within seconds, the car and the thieves were gone!
All of this was caught on the store’s surveillance video. One of the thieves went into the store, giving his accomplice time to scope out the parking lot for a quick score. The running SUV was an easy mark. When the man came out of the store, he backed the thieves’ car in beside the SUV, his partner jumped out of the car and behind the wheel of the running one they took, and off they went.
Please look at the video carefully. If you recognize either of these men, or even if you think you do, please notify CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-888-CRIME SC. You can also make tips on their website at midlandscrimestoppers.com. They also have a FREE P3 app that you can download from either app store.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department also wants to make you understand that leaving your car open, the keys in it, and especially running is not a good idea. It, or your things, could be Gone in 60 Seconds.
