Coroner identifies man who died in fiery truck crash on I-20 Tuesday morning

November 21, 2018

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office has released the identity of the man who was killed in an accident involving a tractor trailer truck on I-20 Tuesday morning. The accident, which happened just after 10:30 a.m. on I-20 west between the 58 and 59 mile-markers, claimed the life of Alexander Buie, 65, of Fayetteville, NC. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.

According to the coroner’s office, Buie was operating a tractor trailer when he swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle and lost control in the portion of I-20 undergoing construction. The truck he was driving left the right side of the highway and collided with trees and a fence. The cab portion then caught fire and burned. Law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel arrived on the scene, but by the time they pulled up, the entire cab was engulfed in flames with Buie still trapped inside.

An investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol is ongoing.
