Car fleeing from law enforcement crashes near St. Andrews
St. Andrews, SC (Paul Kirby) – A vehicle that failed to stop for law enforcement officers crashed on Tram Road at Jamil Road in the St. Andrews area early Tuesday morning causing deputies to seek medical treatment for the driver of the crashed car. This all happened around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday. Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies had pursued the car after its driver initiated the chase when they tried to pull the car over. The deputies had responded to a report of a suspicious person call. It is believed that the occupant of the car may have been attempting to break into a shed in the area.
As soon as the driver lost control of the vehicle and wrecked it, Lexington County’s 911 center dispatched the Irmo Fire District,a Lexington County EMS unit, and a medical supervisor to the scene. Law enforcement personnel thought that one person might be trapped in the wreckage, but that proved not to be true. The driver fled the scene on foot and still had to be chased by the deputies. Eventually, a suspect was taken into custody and brought to the EMS unit so their crew could assess and treat the suspect. We do not know if that person was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Irmo PD officers were in the area and assisted the sheriff’s department after the crash.
The extent of the suspect’s injuries and any charges that may be brought haven’t been released by the LCSD at this time. We have asked for more information and will try and update this story as we receive more details.
