Wilton Road dam much closer to being repaired after more than three-years

Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – Representative Micah Caskey recently notified the residents of the town of Springdale that some headway is finally being made to repair the dam on Wilton Road. It was washed out during the floods of 2015 and since then, questions about who owns the dirt under the road that crosses the dam have prevented it from being repaired.

SCDOT recently told Representative Caskey that the agency and the Wilton Road dam owner have a signed legal agreement that will allow repairs to proceed. This whole process has been held up on legal issues, and that agreement finally resolves the last stumbling block. According to Caskey, there is still a way to go. SCDOT has to finish the design process, bid out the construction, and then the actual construction has to be complete.

Caskey said in his message, “It's too early to say when the dam will be reopened, and we all agree that it should have been reopened years ago, but this development is the most important step we've had since it all started.” We will continue to keep you updated on this project as we learn more.
