Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – The man who sparked a manhunt in the Pine Ridge area Friday has been captured with the help of deputies on Crystal Springs Drive between Edmund and Pelion Sunday night. This is according to Thom Berry of the SC Law Enforcement Division.
A number of area law enforcement officers, including ones from Pine Ridge, South Congaree, Lexington County, SLED, and the US Marshal Service had searched an area between South Congaree and Pine Ridge near Dogwood Road Friday for Marshall Spence Meeks, 20, who was wanted out of Orangeburg County. At times, residents in the area locked their doors and watched carefully as a SLED helicopter circled overhead and officer held a perimeter on the area’s roads. Eventually, the search was called off that day.
Sunday night, Meeks was captured by SLED agents and deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at a house off Crystal Springs Drive. Meeks will be transferred to Orangeburg County where he will have to answer to the warrants he has there.
