Sonny Boy Poole Road fire has one fatality according to fire service and coroner

December 3, 2018

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – One person is now reported to have perished in the fire that consumed a mobile home between Gaston and Swansea early Sunday morning. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said yesterday evening that Tommy Ray Watts, 52, of Gaston was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of that fire.

The home that burned was in the 300 block of Sonny Boy Poole Road near Gaston and Swansea. This is off Fallaw Road between the two towns. The fire, which was reported just after midnight Sunday morning, had completely engulfed the home when firefighters arrived. Watts’ body was found inside after the fire was extinguished. Coroner Fisher said that an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, December 3rd to determine the exact cause of Watts’s death.

The cause and origin of the fire is still being investigated by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
