Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – Another fire at American Scrap metal closed a portion of Charleston Highway near Memorial Drive Thursday night as firefighters had to lay a supply hose from a nearby fire hydrant to supply the water needed to battle the blaze. The fire, which was reported just before 9:30 p.m., brought multiple resources from Lexington County’s Fire Service and the Cayce Department of Public Safety. This was just one in a series of fires over the past few years that have burned in that yard that recycles metals and junk cars.

The first firefighters to arrive on the scene were from the City of Cayce. They reported that there was a large pile of debris burning in the rear corner of the lot. The adjacent railroad tracks were closed as firefighters battled the blaze in rapidly dropping temperatures. Eventually, the county’s tower truck out of Lexington was requested to dump water on the fire from above.

The cause of the fire or exactly what had burned has not been released by the fire service. The cause of the fire is still be investigated.
