Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A home burned on Spillway Lane off North Lake Drive just outside of Lexington Saturday evening bringing firefighters from across the North Region of Lexington County and the Irmo Fire District from their North Lake station to battle the blaze. Spillway Lane is just south of the dam close to the Lake World Bait and Tackle Shop and S.C.E.&G’s Lexington Public Park. The fire, which was reported about 7:20 p.m., took several hours for the crews to completely put out.
First arriving firefighters reported that there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the home when they pulled up. Callers had reported that there might be several people trapped in the home, and the first crews immediately went into rescue mode searching the home twice for victims. Eventually, they transitioned into an attack mode and knocked the fire down. The fire was marked under control at about 9:00 p.m. and the last units left the scene around 9:30.
The county has not said Sunday morning if anyone was injured during the fire, what exactly caused the blaze, or given an estimated loss to the home and its contents as a result of the tragedy. We will update this story if they release more information later on.
