Car runs into and sinks in pond on Platt Springs Road Friday afternoon, no one seriously injured

Boiling Springs, SC (Paul Kirby) – A car ran off the Platt Springs Road during a period of heavy rain Friday afternoon and crashed into a pond west of Clermont Lakes Drive. The car then sank until just a small portion of its roof was visible above the waterline. The occupant was able to exit the vehicle before it was partially submerged preventing what could have been a major tragedy.

Law enforcement officers, firefighters and special trained rescue personnel from the Lexington County Fire Service, as well as crews from Lexington EMS responded to check on the health and well-being of the person who was in the car when it crashed. Because the driver was out of the vehicle, the special teams were released to return to quarters before arriving on the scene. A recovery company was later notified to respond and winch the car out of the pond.

No agency has released any information that would explain how the car’s driver lost control and ran into the water. The accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol.
