Mobile home catches fire and burns off Donald Drive overnight
Boiling Springs, SC (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home caught fire and burned off Donald Drive between Boiling Springs, Edmund, and Red Bank overnight. The home was gutted as a result of the fire. Donald Drive is a dead-end road lined with medium to large parcels of land, small homes, and lots of mobile homes where many small families and older couples live. It runs off Longview Street which directly connects to Boiling Springs Road.
Lexington County firefighters arrived at the home that sits back off the road behind other homes to find flames coming from the structure. It is only accessible by a long driveway. They used tanker trucks to carry water to the scene to sustain their fire attack. Eventually, the fire was brought under control. Firefighters did return to the home around 4 a.m. Thursday morning after someone reported smoke was coming from underneath the mobile home again. The fire engine and its crew out of Boiling Springs, backed up by some additional manpower from another station, quickly took care of the smoldering embers producing the smoke. As the home sat in the dark, the bare studs of the exterior wall were illuminated by the headlights of the fire truck, a testament to work the firefighters had done to pull off any siding or other material that might hide more embers.
As of early Thursday morning, Lexington County hadn’t released any details regarding the fire. It appeared as if the home was a total loss because of the blaze.
