Young man leads trooper on chase, ends up crashing into Cayce Waffle House

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – A young man that led state troopers on a high-speed pursuit was arrested after he crashed his car into a Waffle House in Cayce early Thursday morning. Gregory Alexander Maxwell was charged with DUI, failure to stop for blue lights, and driving while uninsured. He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

SC State Troopers say they were on I-26 westbound near the 115 mile-marker when Maxwell sped past them at a very high speed. The troopers immediately gave chase and Maxwell initiated the short pursuit. He exited off I-26 at the 113 exit or Airport Boulevard. He tried to turn into the parking lot of a Waffle House on Airport Blvd. but crashed into the building instead.

Officers from the Cayce Department of Public Safety and the troopers from the SCHP responded to the wreck. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department was the investigating agencies because they were not involved. It is standard operating procedure for another agency to investigate any accident that involves some other department.
