Vehicle wreck with entrapment near Swansea requires helicopter flight for one patient

January 31, 2019

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County EMS, firefighters, and law enforcement officers responded late Wednesday to a vehicle wreck that trapped at least one person on SC Highway 6 near Swansea. Once the first responders arrived and assessed the situation, they felt one of the patients’ condition required the speed of a helicopter transport. At that point, they requested the launch of a Lifenet helicopter.

Harrison Cahill, a spokesman for Lexington County, said the accident happened near at 1794 Hwy. 6 near Blackville Road. After the patient was freed from the wrecked vehicle, that person was transported by ground to Edmund First Baptist Church for transfer to the helicopter. Another fire crew had already arrived there and prepared a landing zone for the helicopter. The patient was  then flown to Palmetto Richland’s Trauma Center for treatment.

The SCHP is investigation the accident.
