UPDATE: Large brush and shed fire near Round Hill Tuesday afternoon
Round Hill, SC (Paul Kirby) – A large, fast moving grass fire was burning out of control near 147 Roost Court between Round Hill and Boiling Springs Tuesday when the county's fire service arrived. Multiple county fire stations were on the fire that spread to a shed and threatened multiple structures.
The call was received around 1:30 p.m. and firefighters arrived quickly to find the fire running unchecked through the area. They quickly went to work while the incident commander asked that additional equipment respond. They had a number of fire engines, tankers, and brush trucks on the scene and at 2:00 p.m. more were still enroute. Both battalion chiefs arrived and were assisting as was an administrative chief with years of field experience. EMS also was standing by to provide for the firefighter’s safety. At 2:12 p.m., the fire was marked under control but it took several more hours before it was completely out. This was because a few trucks and personnel stayed on the scene to make sure all the hot-spots were extinguished.
During the fire, the public was asked to stay out of the area and yield to the emergency equipment. The fire service said no homes were damaged during the fire.
