Swansea students to compete in HOSA competition next week

February 28, 2019

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – Students from Swansea High School who are enrolled in courses known as HOSA will be traveling to North Charleston to compete in a competition with others from across South Carolina. HOSA stands for Health Occupation Students of America. This course of study prepares students for careers in health-related occupations like nursing, physical therapy, and even can be the first step to becoming a doctor.

During the competition, the Swansea teens will be competing in the health career displays, scrapbook competition, medical terminology, nursing assisting, physical therapy, and even the HOSA bowl just to name a few. Not only will the trip be fun and exciting, but it will also give the students an opportunity to meet and network with other students from across the state. Competitions such as this also help students to hone their skills and teaches them how to perform in a pressure situation as many of them will have to do if they continue in the medical field.

Swansea students who are going to the competition are: Sierra Mitchum, Sierra Thigpen, Peyton Kirby, Taylor Sikes, Kaley Shumpert, Megan Collins, Kaylee Spires, Taylor Reynolds, Rachel Hayden, Madison Wise, Myleea Chruchwell, Kandy Crossland, Hannah Poole, Taryn Shoemaker, Abby Smith, and Rebekah Moskal. Their teachers/advisors are Kelly Kemmerlin and Kelly Hartley.
