One charged after shooting multiple rounds from gun in Cayce, no one hit or injured

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – One young man has been arrested by the Cayce Department of Public Safety after an investigation into shots fired Monday afternoon. The incident happened in the 2200 block of Taylor Road in the city. When the shooting started on the quiet street lined with small homes, the city’s 911 Communications Center lit up, quickly receiving calls. They eventually answered approximately a dozen reports from citizens regarding the sound of gunfire, something that’s rarely heard in the city because discharging a firearm inside the city limits is illegal. Police officers arrived on scene and immediately detained two men for questioning.

After a thorough investigation, officials say they believe that more than 25 rounds were fired. Officers have charged one man, Evan Michael Vermullen, 22, with discharging a firearm in the city limits, and discharging a firearm while intoxicated. Officials say that both drugs and alcohol may have been a factor in this poor decision. It is not believed that the second man who was originally detained has been charged at this time. No one was injured during the shooting incident.

In most Lexington County towns and cities, it is illegal to discharge any type of firearm inside their boundaries. That does not apply to areas that are unincorporated in the county. Although there are certain laws governing shooting firearms in the county, you can do so as long as you comply with these safety rules.
