Sunset Primary Care moving to new location to better serve its growing patient needs

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – Sunset Primary Care is moving to a larger location after the idea of low-cost medical care for the uninsured or underinsured caught on. People who can’t shell out hundreds of dollars for doctor visits and follow up care have the option of pay now but pay less for their medical care. Since opening, thousands of people have been seen by Nurse Practitioner Scottie Shelley, a veteran of the US Navy. He served our country as a corpsman. Now in private practice, he sees patients who have sudden onset illnesses like sore throats, rashes, or the flu. He can also provide continuing care for chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease.

Shelley’s business model is simple; provide great quality care at a fraction of the cost of a physician’s practice, urgent care, or hospital emergency room. He does this by taking payment at the time of service and not accepting insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid. By eliminating the "middle man" or having the expense of hiring billing clerks or services, he has a reduced operating cost. This dramatically reduces the cost of the clinic’s overhead. Those savings are substantial and passed on to you!

Normally an office visit for a sore throat, stomach bug, a rash, shingles, or even a sprained ankle can be as low as $60.00. Even the cost of additional services like blood work or a strep throat test are clearly listed on the website to see exactly what your cost will be. Follow up visits can be just as cheap and if you have multiple problems, the cost goes up just a small amount based on the time the practitioner spends with you. They can even see you up to 6:00 p.m. if you can’t take time off from work. They also see lots of personal injury cases for people hurt in vehicle accidents or at work. In most cases, they see you on the same day you call, diagnose your problem, write your prescription, and have you on your way back to good health quickly.

Now because of the growth of the clinic, they are moving to a new location at 2373 Augusta Road in West Columbia. This is in the commercial area in the vicinity of the Sonic Drive-In and the Bi-Lo. It’s closer to I-26 for easier access. They hope to be moved sometime in early April.

At the new clinic, they will have more room and are adding a chiropractic clinic with the same pay now and pay less business model. This will allow them to provide total spinal care and wellness for their patients. They’ll offer massage therapy, a decompression bed for people with chronic back pain from bulging and herniated discs, and Diathermy treatment. Diathermy is a therapeutic treatment prescribed for chronic muscle and joint pain. It uses a high-frequency electric current to stimulate heat generation in tissues. The difference in this equipment and regular heat lamps or pads is that the heat can penetrate all the way down to the bone.

Sunset Primary Care and its staff think outside the realm of what some physicians may. They offer CBD products, the extract of the hemp plant, that some have found are very beneficial for chronic pain, anxiety, seizure disorders, and diabetic neuropathy. Shelley said recently, “Some people have had great success with CBD oil and we carry it in various forms depending on your condition and need.” They can even do Botox injections to help you look and feel like a million bucks!

Emotional disorders can be as distressing as physical ones. That’s why Sunset Primary care offers treatment for anxiety, depression, and ADHD. If you need a pre-employment physical, they have you covered. Even men’s health issues like Low-T and ED can be treated at Sunset Primary Care.

If you need to be seen often, there’s a membership that allows you to come regularly and save. For a $60 monthly fee, a member gets an annual physical with basic labs, discount in-house labs, unlimited doctor appointments throughout the year at no additional cost, same day or next day priority appointments, electronic visits on an as needed basis, medication refills, disease management, and email and communication with your provider.
