Lexington dedicates Pat Jeffcoat Serenity Park within Virginia Hylton Park
Lexington, SC - On Wednesday, March 27, 2019 the Town of Lexington dedicated the Pat Jeffcoat Serenity Park, located within Virginia Hylton Park at 111 Maiden Lane, Lexington.
Virginia Hylton Park is currently 6.5 acres. The Lexington town council has approved the purchase of an additional 8.25 acres to expand the park, now totaling 14.75 acres. Mayor Pro-Tem Hazel Livingston is overseeing the makeover efforts that will transform the park to ultimately include ten interior parks featuring a teen area, inclusive playground, water activity area, and nature trails. This has been Livingston’s passion. Her commitment to the makeover of the park shows her love for the beautiful open spaces and the opportunity for so many to enjoy being outside and commune with nature while in Lexington.
The Pat Jeffcoat Serenity Park is the first phase, built from community donations totaling $23,400 plus in-kind services. A little free library has also been placed inside the park and will be regularly restocked by the Jeffcoat family. Pat has been a significant contributor to the Town of Lexington’s beautification efforts through volunteering her time to projects such as Lexington Square Park and the Lexington Welcome Sign “Front Porch” at Sunset Blvd. at I-20.
Pat Jeffcoat is a native of Lexington County and has been married to her husband, former Lexington County Council Member Johnny Jeffcoat for 52 years. They have two sons, Brian and Michael who is married to Kim and she is the grandmother of three. Pat graduated Summa Cum Laude from Columbia College in 1992 and served as a court reporter for over 30 years. Pat is a certified Master Gardener and award-winning landscape designer and is known for her work ethic and the subtle ability to speak the unvarnished truth. It is fitting that this first park within a park be named in her honor.
Town Council’s goal is to improve healthy green spaces within the park while providing safe, playful, social and recreational spaces for all. To learn more about the Town’s Vision Plan and future plans for Virginia Hylton Park, visit our website at www.lexsc.com.
