One patient transported from accident where vehicle was submerged in creek on South Lake Drive
Red Bank, SC (Paul Kirby) – A vehicle ran off South Lake Drive into a creek between Bethany Church and Bluefield Roads Wednesday morning. EMS teams, firefighters, and law enforcement officers responded shortly after 7:10 a.m. They were originally dispatched to an area closer to South Lake Drive and Two Notch Road when a 911 operator gave the wrong street address. Once the correct location was identified, emergency units quickly arrived on the scene and confirmed the car was upside down in the waters of Congaree Creek.
The fire service quickly deployed rescue swimmers who removed a patient from the vehicle. That person was quickly handed over to EMS. They transported that patient with what is being described as life threatening injuries. No one else was located in the vehicle.
The Lexington County Fire Service has a well-equipped team of specially trained firefighters for water rescues. This team has special dry suits, a swift water boat, and other equipment used for this purpose. That team was mobilized Wednesday and arrived on the scene of the wreck quickly.
