Lexington SC - A local group of community philanthropists known as The Fun(d)raisers presened a check to the Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) on April 11, at the DCAC’s office at 140 Gibson Road. DCAC is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention services in a child-focused facility to physically and sexually abused children in the Midlands.
For 20 years The Fun(d)raisers founder, Mollie Taylor has shared her passion for children to raise monies for the Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center. Longtime member, Stephanie Sharpe said, “As a Fun(d)raiser, it is a privilege to work with the generous women who have dedicated almost 20 years to bringing resources to the children in the Midlands who are seen at DCAC.”
This year’s 20th Annual Gala, with a casino night theme, held on February 23 raised $76,000 to support the DCAC’s programs. Monies were raised from community sponsors, silent and live auctions and “fund-a-need” donations.
In their years of support, the Fun(d)raisers have donated nearly $1,000,000 to the DCAC. “This group of women – who are made up of generations of family, neighbors and lifelong friends, have been recognized by United Way of the Midlands and have given countless hours and resources to help the children we see. Their reach goes beyond two events per year, as they involve their communities, husbands, churches, and supporting other special events – have truly signed on to make a difference in Lexington County.” says Carol Yarborough, Executive Director of the Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center. “I am not sure DCAC would still be standing without the steadfast support of this remarkable group of caring women.”
