Lexington County deputies involved in shooting with armed barricaded subject

Lexington, SC - Lexington County deputies were involved in a shooting incident Saturday night with a man who barricaded himself inside a home with a shotgun after a domestic dispute. No one was struck during the gunfire inside a home in the 100 block of Mooring Lane. Deputies were trying to detain the man after witnesses told them he had assaulted a woman inside the house.

Lexington County EMS personnel and firefighters responded and stood-by nearby while the deputies ensured that the scene was completely safe and no one was physically injured. A Lifenet helicopter was also put on stand-by and a landing zone was established in the event the helicopter was needed for rapid transport to a trauma center. Once the situation was deemed under control, the man was transported by EMS for medical treatment. Charges related to the civil dispute are forthcoming against the man.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon has requested SLED take the lead on the shooting investigation, as is standard procedure when his deputies are involved in a shooting.
