Deadly shooting in Springdale under investigation
Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – A shooting that ended with a young man’s death is under investigation by the Springdale Police Department according to Police Chief Kevin Cornett. According to the chief, the shooting took place Monday night around 9:00 p.m. This happened on Pine Croft Drive in an older portion of the town between Platt Springs Road and Airport Boulevard.
Lexington County responded an ambulance and crews from the fire service; however, the gunshot wound was fatal. According to Chief Cornett, the investigation to determine what happened may take a few days. There were other people in the home at the time that the shot was fired, and investigators have been interviewing those people to determine exactly what happened. He did say there was no danger to the public because of this incident.
Chief Cornett said at approximately 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, most officials were leaving the scene. He thanked the Lexington County Coroner’s Office who had been on the scene performing their portion of the investigation. His department also received crucial assistance from the Crime Scene Unit of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. The chief said that Sgt. Stone from the South Congaree Police Department also responded and provided immediate back up for his officer when the call originally came in and he continued assisting during the investigation.
The Lexington County Coroner's Office will identify the victim once his family has been properly notified.
