Police seeking tips on suspects wanted in desecration of cemetery in Lexington
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington Police Department is working to find some vandals who senselessly damaged some headstones in a cemetery on South Lake Drive. According to photographs released by the police, the damage occurred at New Bethel AME Church at 500 South Lake Drive within a short distance of the courthouse.
Photos of the damage show the upper portions of several graves’ headstones were knocked off their bases. It looks as if the vandals may have driven across the grass and used a vehicle to do this. Afterward, they sped away leaving tire tracks as they spun their wheels in the grass. It was a senseless crime that has no purpose other than to hurt people in the name of some twisted fun or a cure for boredom.
If you have any idea who could have done this, please contact Detective Corporal Lawler with Lexington Police Department at 803-358-2067.
