UPDATE: Lexington PD investigating armed robbery at CVS on Sunset Blvd. Thursday morning

May 2, 2019

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Detectives and officers with the Lexington Police Department are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the 24-hour CVS pharmacy located at 5608 Sunset Blvd. in the Town of Lexington. According to Corporal Cameron Mortenson, spokesman for the department, the hold up happened about 3:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

Corporal Mortenson said when officers arrived, they spoke to witnesses who stated that a black male entered the store and presented a handgun along with a note demanding a list of prescription medications to be given to him.  During the incident, the armed robber stole several of the store employee’s mobile phones before fleeing the scene with multiple prescription medications in a white KIA Optima that was being driven by an unknown accomplice.

Police were able to use the phone’s signals to locate them near North Lake Drive and Boardwalk Lane. They were found there by officers along the road and were collected as evidence in the case. Apparently, the thieves realized the phones could be tracked and threw them from their getaway vehicle as they headed north toward the Lake Murray dam. The white KIA Optima was found a short time later in in the City of Columbia. The vehicle had been stolen prior to being used in this incident.

Detectives are looking for a black male, age late teens to early 20’s, who is approximately 5’7” in height and weighing 125-140 pounds.  He was dressed in a green VANS hoodie sweatshirt, orange pants with white stripes down the leg, black with white tennis shoes and had long black hair that may have been partially woven in dreads.

The 24-hour CVS in Irmo on Lake Murray Blvd. was robbed over the weekend. In that robbery, the thieves made off with nothing but narcotics. Since the cell phones were found north of Lexington on the highway used to go to Irmo, there could be some correlation to the two crimes. It is much too early in the investigation to say definitively if that was the case. Detectives will certainly compare notes in Irmo’s case and work with other agencies as they try to catch the thieves.
