West Columbia man charged with committing a crime while a corrections officer

Columbia, SC (Diana Nation) - The South Carolina Department of Corrections Police Services has released the arrest warrants today for former Correctional Officer Dalton Damien Manning.

Manning, 25, of West Columbia, was working as an officer at Kirkland Correctional Institution on Broad River Road in Columbia when he was arrested and charged with attempting to introduce contraband into the prison and misconduct in office.

According to the arrest warrants, on April 14 of this year, Manning attempted to conceal contraband in the form of a cell phone and two packages of tobacco on his person and in his property as he reported for his shift at Kirkland Correctional Institute. After these items were discovered, it is alleged that Manning abandoned his post and fled from the facility in attempt to elude arrest.

Manning was arrested and booked into Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County on Saturday. Manning is considered innocent until proven guilty.
