South Congaree town councilmember and businessman declares to represent Lexington County in council District 5

July 30, 2019

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – South Congaree Town Councilmember and local businessman Bobby L. Porter, MBA, said Monday he plans to run for Lexington County Council’s District 5 seat. That seat is being left open by Incumbent Bobby Keisler who said Monday he wouldn’t file for reelection in 2020.

Porter has served on South Congaree Town Council for the past two years. He served during a period when the town has been working to resurrect and implement the enforcement of ordinances that have been on the books for years. Much of this effort is geared toward making the town appear nicer and be a better place to live, work, and play.

Porter is a cum laude graduate of Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, Campbell University, and an honor graduate of East Carolina University Graduate School of Business. He earned his master’s in business while studying at East Carolina. He owns Premier One Construction, is an unlimited general contractor, and has been for 15 years. Premier One builds primarily in commercial construction and development.

15 years ago, Porter married Jennifer Lovett of Lexington who is a chiropractor. She owns Premier One Spinal Care on South Lake Drive in Red Bank. The couple lives on Ramblin Road in South Congaree.

If elected, Porter says his main goal is to help the other council members keep Lexington County great. He believes that the county is already a wonderful place and wants to work alongside the existing councilmembers to continue toward a brighter future. Porter believes his experience in development makes him uniquely qualified to help with the planning for Lexington County’s explosive growth. “I work in development daily and feel as if I can be of great assistance in helping as Lexington County continues to expand and develop. I believe in growth, but I also believe in good growth.”  Porter went on to explain that good growth comes from good planning and budgeting. “Lexington County has already begun working on a new master plan and I am excited to see what the council thinks the future will hold. I feel certain that upgrades to infrastructure like roads, sewer, and water are critical. I believe those upgrades are necessary and will be a part of that plan.”

“Councilman Keisler has done a tremendous job serving and has been a good friend and mentor to my family and me,” Porter said. “I plan to take his approach and mix it with my skills to help the entire council improve this area and move some of District 5’s needs toward the front. I know that will take compromise, but I am willing to work with the other councilmembers and be a part of Team Lexington!”
