Home in Lexington damaged by fire Monday evening
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Units and personnel from the Lexington County Fire Service, supported by crews from Lexington EMS, responded to a residential structure fire in the 200 block of Allenbrooke Drive Monday evening. This is off the end of Ginny Lane near I-20. The fire was reported about 6:15 p.m. Lexington police officers also responded to assist with traffic and bystander control.
When the first firefighters arrived, they discovered heavy smoke coming from the second story of the single-family home. Firefighters entered the home in search of the fire. With assistance from an aerial unit, firefighters were able to put the fire out that had been burning in the attic. They spent additional time pulling the ceiling and searching for extensions before finally declaring the fire out just before 8:30 p.m.
Harrison Cayhill, spokesman for Lexington County, said via social media that no one was injured as a result of the fire. The home sustained enough damage that Dominion Energy had to disconnect its electricity and natural gas. The damage was such that the fire did displace the family living there. The American Red Cross was called in to assist them.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
