Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting regarding safety improvements at the intersection of St. Peters Rd. and Old Cherokee Rd. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It is being held at New Providence Elementary School. The school is located at 1118 Old Cherokee Rd, Lexington, SC. The meeting will have a drop-in format with displays for viewing, informational handouts, and comment forms.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity to review and discuss individually with representatives from SCDOT the proposed intersection improvements. Another purpose of the meeting is to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.
This project should improve safety at this intersection. The SCDOT wants to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes occurring at this location. The intersection was selected for improvement through the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The HSIP uses a data-driven strategic approach to identify locations throughout the state with high crash rates or patterns. Then they implement safety enhancements to lower that crash rate.
