South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – South Congaree police officers, assisted by officers from other agencies, are searching for a white male after he led a South Congaree police officer on a short pursuit. Police Chief Josh Shumpert said that the man led the pursuing cruiser into the Lake Francis area off Ramblin Road before bailed out and disappeared into an area near the lake and the golf course.
According to Chief Shumpert, his officer was on patrol when he spotted a car that had a bogus tag on it. The tag was registered to another vehicle. When the officer activated his warning devices to stop the car, the suspect fled instead of pulling over. Eventually, he turned into the Lake Francis neighborhood where the suspect bailed out leaving the car to run on foot. Currently, law enforcement officers are searching the area for the suspect.
Officers were still searching for the man at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The chief said that they have had the car towed and are using information found in it in their investigation. At that time, no one had been taken into custody.
If you see a suspicious person in that area, please call 911. If you have any idea who the driver was,
you can notify the South Congaree Police Department’s non-emergency number at (803) 785-2521.
