Barn fire early Wednesday brings firefighters from Batesburg-Leesville and Lexington County to Fredo

Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) – A barn that was described by firefighters as a lean-to style structure caught fire and burned early Wednesday morning on Fredonia Road between Batesburg-Leesville and Gilbert. The county’s 911 Center gave the cross street as Dixired Road. The call summonsing firefighters to the scene was dispatched at approximately 4:40 a.m.

Excited callers told telecommunicators that there were flames jumping 20 feet into the air when the fire was discovered. As the first firefighters arrived, they reported that the one-story structure was well involved. Its size allowed the crews to knock the flames back quickly and officers marked it under control within 20 minutes. Much of the fire equipment and manpower was on scene less than an hour.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined and Lexington County has not said if anyone was injured as a result of the fire.
