Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Local celebrities will come together at River Bluff High School on October 19th for a great cause. They will hold a Celebrity Tricycle Race with the proceeds benefiting the Dickerson Child Advocacy Center. It will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Organizers have designated this a Superhero Event. Because children are superheroes, they are asking everyone to come dressed as their favorite superhero! This is a pet friendly event and organizers hope a few super pets will turn up too.
There are several teams that already have been filled by area celebrities. In the Law Enforcement category, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon will face off against his former boss, Chief Terrance Green of the Lexington Police Department. Chief Byron Snellgrove, the director of the Cayce Department of Public Safety, will also ride in this race. These are all men of large stature so this could be fun to watch.
In the Education category, Lexington School District One’s Superintendent Dr. Greg Little will ride against Principal Gloria Jenkinson of Beechwood Middle School. Of course, Lexington District Two will try and knock off the larger district’s employees by fielding Principal Hope Vrana of Springdale Elementary School as their ringer. It’s been said that Vrana has been practicing her riding skills by challenging the kindergartners at her school.
The Elected Officials category will feature Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall, Lexington County Clerk of Court Lisa Comer, and Lexington County Council Chairman Scott Whetstone. These notable politicians are used to running for office, not the finish line. Tricycling is a bit different but if you compare politics to this type of racing, no one is sure which is more entertaining.
Organizers are already dealing with a small scandal. Rumors have been floating around that MacDougall has made a pact with his police chief to throw spike strips in front of Whetstone’s trike to disable it. Although this has not been confirmed, the National Association of Stock Tricycle Racing is sending an observer to make sure no one cheats! Neither of these men should discount Comer in this race either. She was the captain of the tricycling team in college. She’s has also arranged to have some babies in the crowd. Her coach believes that Whetstone and MacDougall may have been in politics so long that they’ll have to stop and kiss these cuties. That’s when Comer plans to make her move toward the finish line.
This promises to be a great event with lots of fun and laughs. For more information on the event, visit the Dickerson Center’s website at https://www.dickersoncac.org/celebrity-tricycle-race/.
