Man serving time for Lexington County armed robbery found dead in prison cell
Ridgeland, SC (Paul Kirby) – A 29-year-old man who was in prison in part due to an armed robbery he perpetrated in Lexington County was found dead in his prison cell Thursday. He was serving his sentence at the Ridgeland Correctional Institution.
Prison official are currently calling Michael Boyd Edwards' death a homicide. They did not provide any further information on how he died. An autopsy will be performed to establish the exact cause of his death.
Edwards had been sentenced to 10-years in prison for the armed robbery in Lexington County. He was also serving a 1-year sentence for failing to stop for blue lights in Richland County.
