Long time entertainer and famous duck coming to Chapin to teach safety, have some laughs this Saturday

October 22, 2019

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – Sargent Jeff Flanders of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, and his special friend and longtime companion Gertrood Da Duck, are performing in Chapin this weekend. The pair will be there to help children and adults learn to protect themselves and their neighborhoods against the criminal element that invariably surrounds all of us these days. Flanders and Gertrood's show is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Chapin Town Hall.

The Chapin Ruritan Club, the Town of Chapin, and the Chapin Police Department, are all co-hosting this special program. Sgt. Jeff Flanders has been with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, as has Gertrood Da Duck, for more than 37-years in one capacity or another. Flanders and Gertrood have made it their life's mission to help teach children and citizens safety and crime prevention. The duo also wants everyone to know that working alongside law enforcement is the best way to protect their families, homes, and communities from criminals. Flanders and Gertrood use comedy in the form of an expert ventriloquist act to get their safety message across to anyone who sees their show.

Upon hearing the news that Flanders and Gertrood would be performing this weekend in Chapin, Irving Greenfield of Cayce said it’s hard to believe his children now have an opportunity to learn from Gertrood just as he did as a child. “I saw them while I was attending a Community Fun Day at the Midland’s Ballpark years ago,” Greenfield said. “I also saw them perform at my school several times. Gertrood will make you laugh yourself silly and when you leave, you’ll understand how just keeping your eyes open and tipping law enforcement when things aren’t right, can have an big impact on crime.” Greenfield said that it’s always great to see children laughing at Gertrood’s antics. “They seem to retain many of the tips being planted like seeds during the show using the comedy act. Seeing Sgt. Flanders and Gertrood perform can definitely be a great way to entertain your family while making them and your community safer,” Greenfield concluded.

There will be hot chocolate, Halloween treats and lots of fun for all provided by the sponsors. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and come prepared to enjoy the show.

There is no cost for admission. The Chapin Town Hall is located at 157 NW Columbia Avenue in Chapin, SC.
