Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) - Law enforcement officers will once again trade their handcuffs for aprons as they wait tables at the Knox Abbott Drive Red Lobster in the City of Cayce. They are pitching in for Cops & Lobsters, a special event to raise money for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. This will be the second and final day of the event.
According to a spokesman for the Cayce Department of Public Safety, all the tips collected during this event will go directly to local Special Olympic athletes for training, equipment, and travel. Special Olympics South Carolina provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. By participating in sports, physical fitness and healthcare education programs, Special Olympics South Carolina athletes increase self-confidence and social skills, improve physical and motor skills, and have better success in leading more productive and independent lives. The SC law enforcement community is one of the main sources of funding for the program.
The Thursday event, just like the one on Wednesday, will begin at noon and continue until 8:00 p.m. Officers will be taking orders, delivering drinks, and making sure that your food arrives at your table piping hot. When you leave the tip, please tip well. All that money will be used to fund and raise awareness for the Special Olympics program in South Carolina.
Cayce officials said they want to thank Red Lobster for helping the department support this campaign. Throughout the year, various businesses work with the officers to raise money in fun ways. In September, Cops on the Coop saw officers working area Chik-Fil-As accepting donations for the same Special Olympic Programs. If you missed Cops on the Coop and you can’t work out enjoying a meal at Red Lobster today, watch for Cops on Top of Doughnut Shops soon. In Cayce, and across the county, officers will man the drive-thru lines and the store’s interior at Krispy Kreme for the same purpose. You might even see a few atop the building waving and inviting people to stop by and donate.
The Red Lobster of Cayce is located at 1270 Knox Abbott Dr, Cayce, SC. Stop by, do a good deed for yourself by eating some great seafood, and help others by tipping the temporary police wait staff to help Special Olympians.
