Mobile home destroyed by fire near Boiling Springs Tuesday evening

Boiling Springs, SC (Paul Kirby) – A double-wide mobile home on Sampson Road between Boiling Springs and Leesville was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon. The fire was reported sometime around 5:00 p.m. This is between Elbert Taylor and Pond Branch Roads.

Firefighters enroute reported black smoke was visible in the sky long before they arrived on scene. When the first truck pulled up, they reported that the home was “fully involved.” That crew began setting up to fighting the raging fire that had already spread to some nearby woods.

As other trucks and chief officers arrived, the command system was established with several of the commanders acting in specific roles. There was an incident commander, one that was designated as a safety officer, and one who oversaw water supply since no fire hydrants were in the immediate area. Once water tankers began arriving on the scene, they started pouring on a large quantity of water while other firefighters quickly stopped the spreading woods fire.

Eventually, the crews were able to bring the fire under control. It was approximately 8:30 p.m. before they last of the units had picked up, cleaned up, and left the scene. The home was a total loss.

Information on what started the fire hasn’t been released and may not have been determined yet. The county has not said if the home was lived in at the time, but it was believed to have been. They have not given any public indication that there were any injuries because of the fire.
