Lexington, SC – With the New Year beginning, Chief Terrence Green of the Lexington Police Department said Tuesday that the officers you may have seen over the past several months sporting beards hadn’t just lost their razors, they were raising money for Special Olympics South Carolina. During the “Bearded Months”, contributions from the community and local businesses were donated to officer who participated by letting their beards grow out.
During “No Shave for Special Olympics”, which began November 1 and ended on December 31, 2019, officers sought out sponsorships of $25 a week or $225 for the entire campaign. The donation total during this two-month campaign totaled over $6,500.
Chief Green said he wanted to thank all the individuals and businesses who supported the 2019 “No Shave for Special Olympics” campaign. Those included:

“No Shave for Special Olympics” was one of several community fundraising campaigns that the Lexington Police Department was involved in last year. In total, the department raised over $28,000 to help this program! All donations were sent to Special Olympics South Carolina to assist in funding the over 29,600 athletes in this state. Donations such as these fund Special Olympics athletes equipment, attire and health screenings.
