National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s tip leads to arrest of Irmo man

January 23, 2020

Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has proven its effectiveness by tipping off local law enforcement of an Irmo man’s illegal activity. According to local investigators, the man had and was sharing multiple digital images that featured child pornography.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tipped locals after they discovered that Matthew Reid Polkowsky, 42, of the Irmo area of Lexington County had been sharing these files over the internet. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department was notified and arrested Polkowsky. They’re a proud partner of the NCMEC that serves as the arms and legs of that agency locally.

Now that Polkowsky has been arrested, SC Attorney General Alan Wilson’s office takes over. They will act as the prosecuting agency in the cases against him. If he is convicted, he can receive up to ten years for each of his crimes.

One of the easiest ways to help NCMEC is through their partnership with WalMart. Not only does the corporation make large monetary donations to the Center, they also display posters featuring missing children in the entrances of each of their US stores. Each time you enter, take a few minutes to scan the bulletin boards and see if you recognize a child. Many have age progression if they have been missing for a long time.

If you have knowledge of someone committing this type of crime, or believe you do, call CRIME STOPPERS at 1-888 CRIME SC. You can also make tips on their website at www.midlandscrimestoppers.com. Tips can also be made through the NCMEC’s website at www.cybertipline.org. Find out more about the work of the Center for Missing and Exploited Children by going to  www.missingkids.org.
