Lexington County, SC (Paul Kirby) – On Friday, January 31, 2020, LCSD Detention Officer Brittany Sawyer graduated from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Detention Session #409. Sawyer will soon bolster the Lexington County Detention Center’s staff.
Sawyer joins a team of hardworking men and women that report for duty daily at the center on Gibson Road in Lexington. This staff helps to keep order over inmates that may be detained there for a few hours, days, months, and sometimes years.
Now that Sawyer has received her basic training as a detention officer, she’s only just begun. She’ll almost immediately begin her advanced training with officers at the Lexington County facility learning more policies and procedures unique to that operation. In this career field, her training will be ongoing daily throughout the years she spends on the job.
In order to personally welcome and congratulate her to the department, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, Chief Deputy Greg Shockley, Detention Center Major Kevin Jones, and Captain Robert Singleton were there to see Officer Sawyer walk the stage and receive her official certification. Later, Sheriff Koon said over the department’s social media, “We’re glad to have her on the team.”
