Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Director of the Cayce Department of Public Safety Byron Snellgrove held a press conference Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. to provide an update on their investigation into the disappearance of Faye Swetlic. She is the 6 year-old that went missing from Churchill Heights in Cayce Monday.
The chief said that when Swetlik was last seen she had a black shirt on with the word "Peace" across it. She had on rainboots with black polka-dots and her hair is now shoulder length, not as long as it was in some of the first pictures that were distributed. She got off the school bus Monday and was last seen by family.
According to Snellgrove, they have made little headway into Swetlic's disappearance despite having the assistance of hundreds of law enforcement officers and other public safety personnel throughout the night. The chief continued by saying that the little girl was loved by everyone who knew her including her teacher and fellow classmates at Springdale Elementary School, the SRO that works there, and her family. He said that her mother, her mother’s boyfriend, and the child's father were cooperating with officers but at this point, they were no closer to finding the child than they had been yesterday.
Chief Snelgrove said that at this point, the FBI was lending their support in the case because everyone was so concerned about the child. He said any law enforcement agency that was offering their help was appreciated.
Chief Snellgrove said that they hadn’t completely ruled out the chance that Swetlic may have simply wandered away and was lost somewhere nearby. He said she could have hurt herself preventing her return. Although their investigation is wide spread, they do believe it is possible that the child may still be in the Churchhill Heights area.
The chief asked that residents of the area check home security footage, doorbell cameras, and any other devices for photos of the child or anyone and anything suspicious. If anyone has any information to share they should call the Cayce Department of Public Safety’s tip line at (803) 205-4444.
