Dixiana, AC (Paul Kirby) – A house fire forced firefighters to close Gardners Terrace Road at Cottage Road around 8:40 a.m. Monday morning. The fire was down Cottage Road and the structure was about seventy-five percent involved when the first trucks and personnel arrived.
Most of the homes in that area of the county are small. Many of the people who live in the community are also related in one way or another.
The first battalion chief to arrive asked for Lexington County deputies to respond to assist with traffic. He also instructed another truck to lay a supply hose off the closest hydrant. Dominion Energy was notified to cut the power to the home.
Just before 9:00 a.m., multiple trucks were in the road and firefighters were walking into the scene from their apparatus. By the time they arrived, the first crews on the scene were ready for them to provide backup and relief. Within a few moments, they had the fire under control.
A Lexington County EMS unit was on the scene assisting. Deputies were asked to take a report regrading a suspicious fire. At 9:50 a.m., the fire scene was still very active however, things were winding down. The road should be back open by 10:30 or 11:00 a.m.
