Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – Sheriff Jay Koon and a large contingent of his staff were on hand recently to see Frederick Smith graduate from the SC Criminal Justice Academy last Friday. He completed Basic Detention Session # 410.

Frederick is the newest correctional officer of the detention center’s staff. From this point forward, he will continue his training at the center working with senior officers with many years of experience. Hopefully, he will learn something new every day that he reports for duty. Eventually, he will be put to work overseeing a large number of inmates that are waiting on legal proceeding that might include misdemeanors like shoplifting or even serious felonies like murder.

Congratulations to Fredrick and welcome aboard.
