Governor McMaster orders schools closed through April 30

March 24, 2020

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – On Tuesday March 24, 2020, Governor Henry McMaster ordered all SC schools to remain closed through the end of April. He said this was in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Most Lexington County schools have been utilizing eLearning during the time the students have already been out. This keeps them at home, but they are still participating in their lessons via the internet.

This delay helps to maintain the strategy of social distancing. That is a practice of keeping people from having human-to-human contact such as getting within proximity of each other, shaking hands, or coming into contact with other people in any way.

Parents have been dealing with students who are normally in school. Those that work have been trying to find relatives or friends that will keep their children. Many parents have also been laid off from their jobs or are working from home so that child care is not an issue.

Most school districts have been providing free meals for the children and are delivering them by bus at special stops. It is believed that this will continue until the children return to school.
