Dominion Energy closes its boat ramps at Lake Murray & Lake Monticello in compliance with govern

Cayce, S.C. - On Tuesday, March 31, 2020 Dominion Energy announced it would close all its public lake access ramps in order to comply with an executive order from Gov. Henry McMaster. This includes all their boat ramps at both both Lake Murray and Lake Monticello.

Dominion Energy previously delayed opening its public recreation facilities and swim areas at Lake Monticello in Fairfield County and on the Lexington side of the Lake Murray dam. With the governor’s order, the company has now closed its boat ramp and parking lot on the Irmo side of the dam along with a second parking lot on the Lexington side of the dam. Effective immediately, the public can no longer use either parking lot to access the dam’s walkway. The Lake Monticello boat ramp and parking lot is also closed.

Although the order does not impact private property owners along either lake, boaters cannot beach their vessels along a sandbar, lakeshore or island. An example of this might be the popular Sandy Beach on Lake Murray. Boaters are strongly urged to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on social distancing and avoid gathering in groups.
