Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – An observant Lexington police officer was instrumental in recovering a trailer loaded with expensive lawn care equipment early Thursday morning. That officer was on patrol when he spotted a U-Haul truck pulling the trailer in the vicinity of Freedom Drive and Cedarcrest Road. This occurred about 4:15 a.m. To the officer, this was certainly suspicious behavior.
When the driver of the truck saw the officer, he sped away toward Two Notch Road and Lexington County. Near the location that the officer originally spotted the truck, the trailer came unhitched from it and ran into a ditch.

Lexington’s officer adhered to the department’s pursuit policy and did not allow the driver to draw him into a chase. Instead, both Lexington County and the SC Highway Patrol were given a good description of the vehicle and were advised its direction of travel.
Another officer responded to ensure the trailer hadn’t stopped in the road or damaged something. When he arrived, he discovered the trailer was loaded with expensive, commercial grade lawn equipment that someone obviously had used for work. This included a high-quality Husqvarna zero turn mower, another push mower, weed string trimmers, and more.
As of 6:00 a.m. Thursday, police officers were still doing an inventory of the items on the trailer. They are also checking identification numbers to see if any of the items have been reported stolen.
