South Congaree Municipal Election date finally released by officials

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – Here is a good sign that the COVID-19 dangers are waning. Officials in the Lexington County Registration & Election Commission’s office have finally released a concrete date for the Town of South Congaree’s postponed Municipal Election.

The election was originally scheduled for April 14, 2020. That was right at the high point of the pandemic scare. Political signs were all around the town as current elected municipal officials and their challengers were beginning to campaign hard for the votes of the town’s registered voters. As the state went on to struggle with how to handle the coronavirus, all scheduled elections were put on hold.

The rescheduled date is July 14, 2020. This will allow the public to get past the June 9th primary so that the two won’t clash and perhaps confuse some voters. The mayor’s seat is up for grabs as well as two town council seats.

If you live in the town’s incorporated limits and want to make your opinion count, you can still register now if you haven’t already done so to vote in this election. The website www.scvotes.org can help walk you through that process.
