Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher releases the identity of the cyclist struck and killed Sund

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the identity of the bicyclist who died after being struck by an SUV on Sunday, May 10, 2020. The collision occurred at approximately 12:35 p.m. in the 4100 block of Fish Hatchery Road near Suzanne Court. This is between the Sharpe’s Hill and Gaston areas of Lexington County.

According to Coroner Fisher, Charles Justin McCaskill, 36, of Gaston died at the scene. He was riding his bicycle along the road when he was struck. A spokesman for the SC Highway Patrol said a Chevrolet SUV travelling in the opposite direction crossed over the center line of the road and hit McCaskill. It then hit a fence before coming to a stop. McCaskill was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene after he hit the cyclist.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
