Fire damages home on Stoney Point Drive near Chapin

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – A home in the 100 block of Stoney Pointe Drive was damaged by fire sometime around 10 p.m. Wednesday night. Stoney Pointe Drive is off Epting’s Camp Road near the Town of Chapin.

According to Harrison Cahill, public information officer for Lexington County, the caller who reported this fire stated there was smoke coming from his home when he dialed 911. Resources from all three of the Lexington County Fire Service’s Chapin area stations responded. When the first fire truck pulled up at the scene, its crew reported that there was smoke visible from the home.

Trucks and manpower from the Irmo Fire District and the Columbia Fire Department responded to aid the Lexington County firefighters. Once teams were in the burning home, they found that a room and its contents were burning. According to Cahill, the fire was extinguished in short order.

After firefighters were able to clear the heat and smoke to ensure the fire had not extended, they were able to have a good look around the home. After that review, they estimated that the house had about $15,000 worth of damage. The occupants were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Lexington County EMS was dispatched along with the firefighters to deal with any health issues that could have arisen while the fire was being extinguished. In total, Lexington County had eight units on scene with 16 first responders that arrived on those trucks.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. The cause hasn’t been released.
